Collaboration. Yes of course. I have done many times. The process is, it has to be said very time consuming.
Of course as well as some times being a complete
waste of time. you can find your self giving a lot more
that you get back, especially if no actual song comes
from the Collaboration
A major example for me was when I worked with my son,
also Bob Richardson. (The innovator)
We worked on many pieces with me as lyricist.
He is an amazing arranger. He works with his wife Sarah
(SLK). Working in the ”Drum and Bass” genre.
They produce very polished material, and it sells
consistently. Much of his old work has been re-released
on vinyl. Needless to say we have major music differences, and, as with a lot of father/Son couplings, we argue. Shame, because he doesn't actually write lyrics, or even poetry.
I continue to hold the opinion that is the reason there isn’t many or even any; Father-Son song writing partnerships.
'm happy in my own little bubble. Especially now with the internet, spell/gramma checkers. Online references to any problems that arise. youtube (be careful), That's the Wild West I spoke of earlier in "Computers and me".
I do look at the successful writers, and think who would I like to work with. Top of my wish list is the
best song writer performer I have seen in decades. She is up there with Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga and, Mariah Carey. Will I Am. My favourite writer is Paloma Faith. Plus a lot of much younger writers coming through, whose work I am not familiar with. I also think that collaboration happens by accident or a happy coincidence. It can’t be sought after or planned. A bit like human relations. It just creeps up on you and gives you a nice surprise.
But hey I'm fine as I am. I won't be seeking any collaborations, (Or will I?)
